Route 66, The Mother Road ΓÇó by Michael Wallis (1990, St. Martin's Press) Other than Jack Rittenhouse's seminal guidebook, this Route 66 tome is the most complete work on the entire Mother Road. Very much worth the read.

This unique guidebook was originally for winners of a European contest whose prize was a trip down Route 66 driving vintage Corvettes. So that they might follow the original alignment as closely as possible, this book served as their guide. If you are aiming for complete historical accuracy, this book is for you. Some of the directions are so exact they get confusing, but overall this book is an essential reference.
